HKICF hopes to grow with primary and secondary school choirs in Hong Kong. In addition to providing invaluable public performance opportunities for choirs, we are also committed to taking care of the training needs of music teachers and conductors.

In 2021, we launched the “School Choir Incubator Programme” in the form of a pilot project. In view of the positive feedback from the participants, we decided to expand the pilot scheme into a regular programme this year. We hope that by receiving regular professional training and support from choral experts without financial pressure or the pressure to put on a performance, participating teachers may benefit even more and may more easily cultivate a favorable environment for a healthy choral singing culture in their own schools.

The programme consists of 10 sessions of professional conductor and vocal music courses in small groups. We are honoured to have Mr. Christopher Cheng, music director of Hong Kong Youth Choir, and Ms. Wong Cheuk Yee, professional voice teacher, as the instructors of these conducting and vocal lessons. Another highlight of the Incubator Programme is its mentorship component: participants are paired with professional choral experts to provide them with professional support throughout the year. 

Last but not least, to showcase what they have learned, participants of the incubator programme will lead their school choirs to join a concert organised by HKICF later in the year! Our vision is to assist all schools in Hong Kong to establish choirs. We hope this programme will support the growth of school choirs, benefit students, and promote choral music education in schools.
