Guest Choir of the Year

HKICF has always been dedicated to providing Hong Kong students with the opportunity to participate in an international choir festival. Through the interaction with the world’s top choirs, teachers and students can learn from their excellence, diversity, and creativity, and broaden their horizons in choral music. By focusing on the joy of singing rather than the pressure of competitions, students can hopefully appreciate music as a universal language that transcends boundaries and cultures, and reignite their passion for choral music.

In HKICF 2024, we are honoured to have invited world class choirs from both Norway and Hong Kong as our guest choirs.

DEFROST YOUTH CHOIR

We are thrilled to welcome the Defrost Youth Choir from Norway as our guest choir of the year in HKICF2024.

During their stay in Hong Kong, the choir will visit various universities and primary and secondary schools, and engage in exchange activities with multiple choirs. We will launch a Buddy Programme where Defrost choir members will be paired with members of the Hong Kong Inter-School Choir, who will introduce them to Hong Kong culture. The choir will collaborate with HKISC to present an exciting exclusive concert in the choral festival. We hope that this invaluable journey will allow students from Hong Kong and Norway to establish cross-regional and cross-cultural friendships through music, sharing the joy and rewards of learning music together!

The Hong Kong Children’s Choir

The Hong Kong Children’s Choir (HKCC) is the leading children’s choir in Hong Kong and the largest children’s choir in the world. It has nurtured many choral talents over the years and has performed widely in various local and international events. We are honoured to have HKCC as a guest choir of the year, and to have them take part in different activities during the Festival, including the HKICF x HKCC Exchange Concert (please refer to p.73 for concert’s details). Furthermore, HKICF and The Hong Kong Children’s Choir have jointly commissioned Mr. Alex Tam to compose a new song “A New Day”.

In addition, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to HKCC for providing the rehearsal venue for the Teachers’ Choir, so that the members may learn choral music in a comfortable setting.
